  1. Spitfire Simulator Appeal

On Thursday evening (The 6th of July), the Spitfire Museum launched our new Spitfire Simulator Appeal to our local stakeholders. Over 30 people representing local business, politics and community interest were invited to hear about the new Spitfire Simulator that the Museum is raising funds for.

The Simulator, based on the examples in other other heritage organisations, is an exciting new project that will hopefully answer, in part, the age old question of “what is was like to fly a Spitfire”.

Using authentic WWII controls, visitors will be able to take off, fly and land a Mk XVI Spitfire whilst sitting in a realistic cockpit!

In addition to making our visitor experience more immersive, the simulator will also promote education at the museum and hopefully, raise funds which will be re-invested in the Museum.

All together installing the simulator will cost £15,000 but thanks to local business, politicians and stakeholders the Museum has already received £6,800 in donations and pledges towards realising our ambition. As such, we hope to be able to launch the simulator to our visitors in Spring of 2018 in time for the Centenary celebrations of the RAF.

Though ambitious, the simulator will help bring the museum further into the 21st century and hopefully draw more visitors.

If you are interested in supporting the appeal, please contact the museum at: manager@spitfiremuseum.org.uk to get more details.

Donations are very gratefully received. Not only because they let us know that we enjoy the support and interest of our visitors but also because, like many charities, we can claim Gift Aid support which could add an additional 20% to our donated income.
